Cherrios Ad With Interracial Family Brings Out The Internet Trolls

Cheerios Commerical

A few days ago, Cheerios released an Internet ad showing a bi-racial little girl asking her white mother if Cheerios are good for your heart. Her mom confirms that Cheerios are heart healthy and the little girl runs away smiling. The next clip shows her black father waking up from a nap with Cheerios covering his heart. Adorable!!!

The cute 30-second spot has caused quite a stir. Racists took to the comments section on You Tube and had a field day. Many complained about seeing a bi-racial family applauded on the national scale and one comment was even reported as saying “mulattos are destroying the human race.” Things got so bad the Cheerios disabled the comments on You Tube.

The complaints haven’t intimidated General Mills. Camille Gibson, Vice President of Marketing for Cheerios, told Gawker in a statement, “Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all.”

These “segregationists” that are causing a stir won’t get anywhere. We live in a multi-cultural country and I don’t think we’ll be going back to the segregation of the 1950’s any time soon.
