Kerry Washington Covers ELLE; Explains Why She’s The “Luckiest Broad In Hollywood”

Kerry Washington ELLE

Kerry Washington is gracing the June 2013 cover of ELLE Magazine.  She’s come a long way from her debut movie role in Save The Last Dance, and she explains to the mag how lucky she is to have come so far.  From starring in Tarantino’s highest grossing film, Django Unchained, to being the lead actress on ABC’s hit show Scandal, she’s become a major force in Hollywood.

Also in the issue, Kerry reveals that she never thought she’d be an actress when she was a child and that she thought she would be a clinical psychologist.  I guess all the Scandal fans should be glad she chose another direction.  I really couldn’t see another actress other than Kerry Washington playing the role of Olivia Pope.

Kerry’s issue will be on newsstands May 21st.  Check out the highlights and full spread below:

On her current success:

“I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now. To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie- I don’t get to ask for more.”

On how she never imagined being an actress as a child:

“I was not that girl.  I was a kooky theater kid, silly and goofy and academic.”

On the career she thought she would pursue:

“I imagined I’d be a clinical psychologist, with a focus on how performance shapes identity. I’d figure out ways to use role-playing in the healing of people.”

On getting red carpet ready:

“I found out I enjoy the process. All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, Let’s have fun. It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet.”
