OWN Network finally released the trailers for Tyler Perry’s highly anticipated new shows, Love Thy Neighbor and The Haves and The Have Nots. The new original series’ will premiere on OWN May 28th and 29th. Both shows were created, written, and directed by Perry.

Love Thy Neighbor is a half hour comedy centered around Hattie Mae Love, who we were introduced to in Tyler Perry’s play, A Madea Christmas. This show seems to be a familiar formula for Perry. Like his other sitcoms, it follows the lives of a family and their daily struggles, joys, and triumphs in only a way that Perry can. Patrice Lovely reprises her stage role as Hattie and is joined by Kendra C. Johnson and Andre Hall.

The Haves and The Have Nots is Tyler Perry’s first attempt at a television drama. From the trailer it seems to be very soap opera-ish. The show follows the story of the very rich Cryer family and the help that work at their Georgia mansion. The show stars Tika Sumpter, who we know from The Game, where she played Malik’s addict girlfriend. I’m really excited about this show. Perry’s dramas are usually better than his comedies.

I love that OWN is coming out with more original programming. The network was once plagued with low ratings and Oprah Winfrey was accused of trying to do too much with having her own network. Things have really turned around for her however with shows such as Iyanla Fix My Life, Oprah’s Next Chapter, and new reality shows Raising Whitley, and Life With La Toya. I don’t know why anyone ever doubted Oprah. Of course she was going to turn this huge endeavor into a success!
