NEW MUSIC: J. Cole – “Cole Summer”

J. Cole Cole Summer

J. Cole is getting ready for the summer and wants us all to know what kind of summer it’s going to be.  Last night, he dropped another banger titled “Cole Summer.”  The track is about Cole’s rise to fame and his life before all the success.

A nice surprise on the track is the “Nothing Even Matters” by Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo sample in the background as J. Cole raps, “I’m just a Born Sinner, the opposite of a winner. Cole Summer, I predict another winter.”

If you were a little confused about single’s artwork, the single’s cover pays homage to his mother and features a photo of her walking to a mail truck.  Before his rap career took off his mom, Kaye, worked for the Postal Service.  J. Cole also mentions her in the song.  His buddy Drake gets a shout out on the track as well.

Releasing “Cole Summer” wasn’t the only surprise J. Cole had for his fans last night.  After dropping the new track, he announced via Twitter that he would also be releasing his mixtape Truly Yours 2 this evening.  He also confirmed the release date for his sophomore album, Born Sinner, is June 25th.

I was already a fan of J. Cole, but after the release of “Power Trip” with Miguel and now this new track “Cole Summer,” I’m becoming an even bigger fan and can’t wait for the new album to drop.  J. Cole has definitely stepped his game up.
