Trayvon Martin’s Parents Settle Wrongful Death Suit For $1 Million

Trayvon Martin's Parents

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Trayvon Martin’s parents have reached a settlement in the wrongful death suit they filed against the sub-division where their son was killed.

It was a little over a year ago when volunteer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin to death near his father’s home.  The case immediately gained media attention and attracted support from the black community, celebrities, and Rev. Al Sharpton when the Stanford Police Department hesitated on whether or not to charge Zimmerman.

Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder and is currently awaiting his trial.

The settlement released yesterday (Apr. 5), does not specify how much money Trayvon Martin’s parents will receive, but the Orlando Sentinel reports it’s around $1 million.

This settlement doesn’t include George Zimmerman.  The lawyers for Trayvon’s parents stated that they are still planning to file another civil claim against Zimmerman at a later date.
