We are already into the third month of 2013 and I’m sure many people have already failed at keeping their New Year’s Resolution of losing weight. Crash diets, detoxing, working out; we go to just about any extreme to lose weight. I am speaking from experience.

I’ve decided that I’m not going to focus so much on losing weight but instead eat healthier and incorporate some regular physical activity in my life. Living a healthier lifestyle also has its benefits such as reducing the possibility of health problems like heart disease, which happens to be leading cause of death in females. Don’t worry too much, eating healthy IS NOT the same as a diet. You can enjoy the things you like, just in moderation.

Here are some tips on how to help you shed that unwanted weight and eat better:

  1. Exercise Regularly: I’m not a fan of exercising, but just do something. Take a walk, run or hop on that bicycle. Do Yoga, Pilates or one of those infamous workouts on cable. Just get moving.
  2. Make Better Choices: Pass on the Big Mac, extra mayo and cheese, fat, sugar, and sodium. Snack on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein and mix it up so you don’t get bored with your options. There are so many different choices today that eating healthy doesn’t mean your meals have to be flavorless.
  3. Don’t Overindulge: Yes…I know you see my cupcakes and cookies postings, but you have to know when to say no! Don’t keep eating just because there’s a party in your mouth due to the food tasting so good. Stop eating when you are satisfied. Use a smaller plate to help you with your portion control.

Don’t forgot to drink lots of water and eat breakfast…you’re body needs that boost in the morning. These are all small changes that we can easily make. We all have to start somewhere right? Let’s do it together.
