Beyonce Documentary1

Saturday night Beyonce’s documentary “Life Is But A Dream” finally aired on HBO.  Whether you’re a Beyonce fan or not, this movie was amazing!  For the first time in her entire career, Beyonce allowed fans a look into her personal life.  Beyonce took us behind the scenes of some of her recent performances and even took us into the deliver room when she delivered Blue Ivy.

She really opened up in this documentary and talked about her miscarriage, the decision to fire her father as her manager, and went really in depth about her relationship with hubby Jay-Z.

One thing I learned from watching this is that she’s a human being.  Sometimes we forget that celebrities are just like us at the end of the day.  She’s a daughter, sister, wife and mother just like so many of us.  She has the same concerns and fears just like we all do.  She even curses!

So if you missed it, see some highlights and the full video below:

Beyonce on firing her father:

I’m feeling very empty because of the relationship with my dad.  I’m so fragile at this point.  And I feel like my soul has been tarnished.  I feel like I had to move on and not work with my dad.  And I don’t care if I don’t sell one record ever again.  It’s bigger than the record.  It’s bigger than the career.

On managing herself:

My father taught me so much about being in this business.  Business and being polite…it doesn’t match.  You can be fair.  But me being polite wasn’t me being fair to myself.  Now I’m learning how political things are.  A lot of the crazy things my father did were necessary.

Her relationship with Jay-Z:

We connected on a spiritual level.  It’s just a coincidence that he’s also an artist.  Hes taught me so much about being an artist.  I, like a lot of women, give up so much.  But he doesn’t….Having this baby made me love him more than I ever thought was possible.  It’s every woman’s dream to feel this way about someone.

Her miscarriage:

Two years ago I was pregnant for the first time.  I heard the heartbeat. Something happens when you hear the heartbeat.  You truly know there’s life inside you.  I picked out names. I envisioned what my child looked like.  I was feeling very maternal.  My family was so excited.  I flew back out NY to get my checkup.  And no heartbeat.  Literally, the week before, I went to the doctor and everything was fine.  But there was no heartbeat.  I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I’d ever written in my life and it was the first song I wrote for my album.

Her pregnancy:

Being pregnant was very much like falling in love. You are so open. You are so over-joyed. There is no words that can express having a baby growing inside of you so of course you want to scream it out and tell everyone but you just have to make sure everything is safe, so I had to hide something that was the best thing in my life. I was scared to make plans but I remember going to the doctor and the doctor said, “Listen, you have to let it go. You’re healthy and if this baby is supposed to be here, it’s going to be here. You don’t need to be thinking about it. Go do everything that you’ve been doing and you’ll be fine.”

On giving birth:

I felt like God was giving me the chance to assist in a miracle.  There’s something so relieving about life taking over you like that.  You’re playing a part in a much bigger show.  And that’s what life is….the greatest show on earth.  My baby was born out of a conflict in my life.  And that conflict had to be settled.

On surrogate rumors:

There is actually a lot of people that believes this rumor and it’s crazy. I guess there are some crazy celebrities in this world so we get a bad rep but to think that I would be able to be that vain. I respect mothers and women so much and to be able to experience bringing a child into this world. If you are lucky and fortunate enough to experience that, I would never ever take that for granted. It is the most powerful thing you can ever do in your life. And especially after losing a child, the pain and trauma from that, it just makes it mean so much more to get an opportunity to bring life into the world. It’s something that you have to respect. People should have boundaries, there is certain things you shouldn’t play around with and a child, you don’t play around with that.

On her sisters (Solange & Kelly Rowland):

It’s difficult being a woman, it’s so much pressure. We need that support. We all have the same insecurities. I have been around the world, I love my husband, but it’s nothing like having a conversation with a woman. I need my sisters.
