WILLOW SMITH WILL NO LONGER STAR IN “ANNIE” REMAKE

Willow Smith

Willow Smith was nine-years-old when it was announced that she would star in a remake of the classic “Annie.”  The film will be produced by Will & Jada Smith for their company Overbrook Entertainment and co-produced by Jay-Z, who is also rumored to be working on the soundtrack with new songs.  However, it’s been almost four years and Willow has outgrown the role.  This year, Willow Smith will be 13-years-old.

It was announced Wednesday that Willow Smith was unfortunately no longer in the running for the role because she has outgrown the part.  This doesn’t mean that the project has been put to bed.  There are rumors that 9-year-old, Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis is being considered for the role of “Annie.”

Jay-Z released a statement in regards to the upcoming project:

“For [my company] Marcy Media’s first foray into film, we couldn’t ask for better partners and mentors than Overbrook Entertainment. We are excited to work with [director] Will Gluck and Sony Pictures Entertainment. My well-known affinity for the classic “Hard Knock Life” makes Annie a natural vehicle to lead us into the world of the cinema.”

I don’t think Willow is too upset.  I’m sure she has some other projects up her sleeve that are fueled by her parents production company.  It will be nice to see what they do with the remake of this film, and hear more “Hard Knock Life” inspired tracks from Jay-Z.  Stay tuned!
