This morning the nominees were announced for 85th annual Academy Awards.  Quvenzhané Wallis, 9, was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Hushpuppy in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”  This makes Wallis the youngest ever to be nominated in this category.

Wallis was just 5 years old when she auditioned for the part of Hushpuppy; she beat out over 4,000 contenders.  Since the release of the movie last summer, she has received major recognition for her role in the film.  She has already been cast in the upcoming film “Twelve Years a Slave” starring Paul Giamattia and Brad Pitt.  Yes, Brad Pitt!

The movie “Beasts of the Southern Wild” was nominated for three other Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Congratulations Quvenzhané! We wish you the best of luck!!!  If you haven’t seen the movie yet, check out the trailer below:
